Acer’s Iconia Tab A500 Android tablet goes official

Verizon subscribers who are looking for some 4G tablet action on the carrier will be happy to construct out that Acer has introduced one of the first 4G tablets for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, namely the Iconia Tab A500. This tablet will use the latest version of Android, which probably means Android 3.0 Honeycomb, though it will be laced with Acer’s custom user interface on top. Under the hood, it’ll be powered by NVIDIA’s dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 chip and plus offer support 1080p video through HDMI output. One of the standout features of this tablet will be its 10-point multi-touch display, not to mention the inclusion of a gyroscopic sensor for tilt detection. There wasn’t a concrete ship duration or price for the Iconia A500, but it’s speculated that it’ll reach in March or later.

Lexar introduces its 32GB Class 10 high-speed microSDHC card

[CES 2011] Digital cameras out there are pretty useless unless you have a memory card to store the pictures in. Now Lexar has introduced its 32GB Class 10 microSDHC card that is designed for mobile devices, a card that is capable of reading input at 20MB/s and writing details at 10MB/s, more or less double the write speed of the current batch of Class 4 cards that operate at 4MB/s. The 32GB Lexar High-Speed microSDHC card comes with a 10-year warranty and will set you back $149.99.

LG Optimus Black with 4-inch NOVA display goes official

[CES 2011] You might know of it as the LG B, but the phone has now gone official under the name of the Optimus Black. This phone is LG’s latest flagship Android phone and offers a 4-inch NOVA display, promising to be bright (700 nits) and energy efficient. While most slim phones tend to have less-impressive battery life, this phone features a 1,500mAh battery despite being just 9.2mm slim and tapers down to 6mm. Another feature that you rarely see on phones is the 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone will initially ship with Android 2.2 and LG’s Optimus UI 2.0, though it’ll receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update somewhere down the line. Expect the LG Optimus Black to roll out globally in the first half of 2011.

Samsung Infuse 4G headed to AT&T supporting HSPA+

[CES 2011] Manufacturers out there seem intent on creating phones that are super slim and we’re not complaining. Next up is the Samsung Infuse 4G that is headed to AT&T. The most obvious feature that this phone has will be its huge 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, touted to feature a 50 percent boost in sub-pixel count, offering improvements in contrast and outdoor readability.

RIM launches its Built for BlackBerry program

Purchasing third-party accessories for your phone might be a painful process, since you’re not always guaranteed that it will work flawlessly with your phone. RIM has just introduced the Built for BlackBerry program to ensure users that they will be able to easily identify accessories that have been approved by third party manufacturing partners for the BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. RIM claims to offer technical, strategic and marketing support to members of the program. Users will be able to identify approved accessories via the Built for BlackBerry logo on the accessory packages. The Asteroid by Parrot does just that, though, cramming in the Android OS and offering you three USB ports that allow you to hook up other devices, including a 3G card or GPS USB device. You’ll be able to play music from a variety of sources, such as MP3 players (via USB) or SD cards. Parrot Maps is a service that might be of interest to you, offering turn-by-turn navigation and additionally traffic and construction alerts. Thanks to the Bluetooth connectivity, you plus get voice dialing and hands-free calling, not to mention voice-activated artist search. Pricing wasn’t mentioned yet, but it should be arriving in the US sometime in Q2 this year.
